When building a personal wine collection it is most important to buy the wines you love to drink. You may also want to collect wines that will increase in monetary value or that become better tasting with age. Australian wines went through a period of increased popularity and earned credibility for their many high ranking wines. In 2010 wine makers down under are dealing with an oversupply of grapes and wine in approximately 1/6th of their wineries due to growth, not loss of demand. To curtail the possibility of devaluing their wines, Australian winemakers are remedying the situation this year to restore balance in and retain hold of their strong market share.

Wine Spectator Magazine Reports that “The Riverland council has recently developed its own "Strategic Plan for Wine Industry Development," which focuses on marketing to increase demand rather than cutting supply”. While concurrent plans to reduce production leaving grapes unprocessed has them reporting that “Australia's 2010 vintage will be smaller than 2009 in spite of higher yield projections." (ref. 1)
