Elvis ALWAYS loved, respected, and cherished his fans. Those individuals who bought his records, went to this concerts, bought this promotional items, sent him letters, listened to his music, watched his movies, wished him the best, prayed for him, went to his movies, etc.

Each of these "things" (bought his records, went to his concerts, etc.) I have done (informally since the 60's) and (formally) since 1970.

Many people who were "there with Elvis", in employment roles, during the 60's/70's truly loved him...as a person - as a man - as an entertainer - and every other criteria.

However, there were many (who will remain "nameless" at least on this blog) that have tried to MONETARILY PROFIT off of Elvis at the EXPENSE of...the fans.

Interestingly there is now a "second generation wave", hitting Elvis Fans, whereby their parents (who worked with Elvis at some point - and NOT them) have given them "permission" to (a) exaggerate their parents TRUE accomplishments pertaining to Elvis (b) attempt to silence REAL Elvis Fans around the World and (c) use underhanded tactics pertaining to # a and # b above.

Instead of spending their time EMBRACING Elvis fans they choose to spend their time...undermining Elvis fans. These same "people" are the FIRST to "cry" about all the things that the "estate" prohibits them from doing. These same "people" are the FIRST to present themselves, during Elvis week and otherwise, around the World as being..."in the know" and/or "experts on all things Elvis". I call this the "can't see the forest for the tree syndrome" (among other things).

IF they were so "influential", to Elvis and to his fans, where were they during Elvis' health issues? Where were they during the heyday (which I LIVED and it was...brutal) during "Elvis, what happened?".

I can tell you where they were....being silent that's where! While Elvis' reputation was under CONSTANT ATTACK, by a "music regime" that believed that Elvis was "overrated" and "not worthy" because he did not write his own music/songs, day after day and year after year they did NOTHING.

Now they, and their "second generation", spend their time marketing their relatives "positions" at the expense of (a) what really happened and (b) showing Elvis as he...really was.

There are some WORTHY exceptions to this "syndrome" but (sadly) they are either dead OR too busy...living their own lives (which is what Elvis would "want" in my opinion).

Fortunately I have compiled a collection whereby my own children can read it, listen to it, talk about it, and "digest it" without "modern day spin" or "fabrications by want-to-be's" or those with an...agenda.

Elvis NEVER let anyone "mess with" his music. He wanted the fans to hear it...as he recorded it. I believe in Elvis' "wants" and I support his position and that is why those who "mess with" others, including his fans, should be held accountable in the "light of day" and begin to just...tell us like it is/was. Anything other than that...is/was a "cop out".

Elvis left us his "legacy" through his efforts. Anyone who attempts to "enhance their own legacy", at the expense of the TRUTH, actually "diminishes" Elvis legacy. Elvis achieved his (well deserved) LEGEND STATUS not by doing things "the easy way"...but the right way.

Elvis also believed that fans should have ACCESS to him DIRECTLY and not through "third parties". The more "layers" that exist between what the FANS want...and what is offered...the greater chance/realization that the FANS will find something else to do with their time/money/etc.

I lived through the mid/late 60's (i.e. before the "68 comeback") and Elvis was (hard to believe) LAUGHED AT and was the "butt of jokes". The same thing happened in the early 70's until his death.

Fortunately there have been HARD CORE Elvis fans (of which I am a proud "card carrying member") that have, on their own and not due to any "efforts" on behalf of Corporations (in spite of what they MAY think), put the "love of Elvis" unto their children...and their "children's children".

I know that MANY Elvis items have been, and will be, "priced out of the market". This "fact", along with the "packaging and repackaging and repackaging" again and again (i.e. the same songs, the same videos, the same DVD, the same "spin"), is a surefire way to dilute Elvis' and his music and his name and his fan base.

Music is (always) changing. Our lives are (always) changing. Funny thing though...change is NOT always..."good". If you don't believe that then just turn on ANY "top 40" music radio station today and see what (not all but certainly MOST) is being put forth as "music" today.

Elvis stayed TRUE to his fans in 1954 through 1977. He expected anyone/everyone associated with him to do the same. His expectations should not be "discarded" simply because he is not around to enforce/remind people. It is a fact that we have stayed TRUE to Elvis, his family members, his Estate, etc.

I have a "fear" that one day everything that is told/sold about Elvis will have been so "marginalized/spun" that what REALLY happened will...only be a memory.

One hard-cold fact is that memories (sadly) die along with the bodies of those in which the memories were stored. Without my own efforts, to my own family, they would be 'walking around" thinking Elvis was just a "drug addict" who "died on the toilet" (not to be disrespectful but this is what has been told to this "generation" of people who lived after Elvis died) and was "racist" (among other untrue/unwarranted things).

It is my belief that Elvis fans ALWAYS will make the right decision...with their hearts (unless they have other agendas of course) and with their pocketbooks. I put my faith in them as long as they "remember" what REALLY happened and stay true to what Elvis believed and what he stood for.

One of the "great" sayings that have stuck with me, over these years, is that "a man who stands for nothing....will fall for anything".

IF the Elvis fans REALLY stood together, and demanded excellent products at fair value and access to "everything Elvis" and not just what is in a "monetary budget", then...all things are possible.

Until then we will (sadly) be left with our memories and the realization that MANY people are "spinning" Elvis instead of supporting Elvis greatest asset (besides his family - his talent - of course)...his fans.

As a proud fan I say OUT LOUD....let your voices be heard!

Never forget what Elvis achieved and never refrain from holding those accountable who try to "embellish" their accomplishments/positions with Elvis OR those who "advance an UNTRUTH about Elvis".

Lastly, in a few days it will have been 31 years since Elvis' passing (see other blog for details). Enjoy his memories...but fight for them. After all....if we don't (as fans)...who will?
