As sports fans will be aware, Association Football, which is also known as soccer, or just plain football, has become the most popular sport in the world. The USA have their own national game also known as football or American football that is totally different. However, they do participate in soccer too, but not with the enthusiasm they attach to their own style of play. Although attempts have been made to popularize the international game in their country, so far they haven't proved to be entirely successful, but it would be great if they teamed up with their South American neighbors.

Whilst football has its roots in the working class, the game is more complex than a newcomer may initially consider. Simply stated a football match comprises of eleven players who oppose each other on a specially marked out field, that measures about 90 meters long x 45 meters wide. The object of the game is to score goals by directing the ball into the opponents goal, which is an area measuring 7.3 meters wide X 2.4 meters high. Teams include defenders, half backs, and forwards. One significant defender is known as the goalkeeper, who is the only member of a team who is allowed to handle the ball to protect his goal.

The game of football is an activity that grown to be very much a money game. Exceptionally wealthy people, from around the globe, have realized that football can be a lucrative investment. It produces generous profits from ticket sales, media deals, and selling promotional material associated with football club activity, such as football scarves and other items. Newspapers seem to have rapidly expanding segments devoted to sport, and soccer information, including game reports and results, top goal scorers, and other issues that are obviously good for sales.

Talented footballers are emerging in many different continents including, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Even in the United States, helped along by their staging of the world cup in 1994. The Glazer family of Tampa Bay renown, have acquired Manchester United, famous as the worlds richest football club. It would be difficult to estimate on the combined worth of the highest paid players, and the clubs they are contracted to play for.

Recently there has been much publicity, concerning children not taking sufficient bodily exercise. However, it is noteworthy, that for many young people, knocking a ball about remains very popular. Few will finish up earning a living as professional footballers, but countless millions will carry on with their interest, as spectators. Club supporters, the world over are able to track the progress of their favorites, and be entertained by the skill of the privileged few players, who have been endowed with the chance of accomplishing the past objectives of them all.
