Proper Ways to Assemble A Tropical Fish Tank

By: Brandon A. Berum

Having a tropical fish aquarium at home can provide an avenue of fun for the entire family as well as serve as a tool to teach children how to handle pets. If it is your first time to set up a fish tank, it is best that you are aware of the right procedure of setting up your aquarium from purchasing your equipment, picking the location of the aquarium, loading your tank, putting the accessories in and putting the fish in the aquarium, then you will have no trouble at all.

Initially, you must obtain a decent quality fish aquarium. A fine size for a tropical fish aquarium is one that holds at least 10 to 20 gallons of water. You are fortunate if you find one that comes with a complete package that consists of a stand, heater, filter, gravel, and the decorations. If you can't get a good package, then you'll have to purchase it one by one.

When you have the materials ready, it's time to choose a place in the house that you want your fish aquarium placed. Remember not to place your aquarium near an open window as problems with algae can occur if your aquarium is exposed to direct sunlight.

The moment you have your tropical fish tank in position, fill it up with water which is at room temperature. Fill up the tank midway with water first, then add the gravel before you fill it up fully and add the extra decorations that you wish to put inside the tank.

Set up your filter and heater. These two are very significant to keep the aquarium clean and giving your fish the correct water temperature to swim in. Prior to putting the fish, it is recommended that you let your fish aquarium to stabilize with the proper temperature first before adding your first fish.

The last thing that you need to do is the most fun part. It is adding the fish to your tropical fish tank. You can permit your children to do it, however you will have to personally supervise them so they will not injure the fishes in any way. To teach little kids to gradually take responsibilities, it is good that you give them the responsibility of feeding the fishes inside the fish aquarium. Just make certain you educate them not to over feed the fishes. Your children will certainly have fun but they also become responsible owners of the fish.
