The Perfect Picture Light To Light Your Artwork

There is even remote control picture lighting – completely cool!

Because there are so many styles and varieties, choosing the perfect lighting for wall art is an art in itself. Considerations include the size of your artwork, the color and material of the frame, the décor of the room, available light in the room, color of light the artwork would show best in, sources of electrification, and any ancillary needs for ambient lighting you desire [sometimes a picture light can cast enough glow to light up a hallway].

Many picture light styles come in a variety of finishes, such as brass, antique brass, bronze or black. Beyond the metal or color of the lamp there are many stylistic features to consider, you can find lamps in every style from classic to traditional, contemporary or modern.

Whether you choose an art display light that is built into the wall, lighting for picture frames or a wall picture light that isn’t direct wired, there are four light bulb types to consider: an incandescent bulb casts a warm yellow light, a halogen bulb casts a bright white light, an LED bulb array casts fairly warm light, while fluorescent bulbs generate a white cool light.

Lights need electricity, and there are several ways to electrify our picture lamps. A directly wired picture light requires that you know exactly where you want your artwork; then an electrician needs to build a juncture box behind the wall itself. In other words, the direct wire option is fairly permanent.

Other lamps can plug into a recessed outlet behind the picture frame (which you would also install). Still, plenty of our picture lamps attach to the wall or the picture frame and get plugged in to an outlet as any other lamp would be plugged in. Many people purchase a paintable conduit at the hardware store to conceal the cord between the frame and the outlet.

These options give you a lot of latitude and creativity – the lights you choose will make a statement in your room, and your art will shine – literally. Even better, you will protect your art and photos from direct sunlight which is tremendously harmful to wood, fabric, paint and photos.
