The Transfagarasan Highway - Sibiu to Curtea de Arges, Transylvania, Romania

Pack your wooden stake and lots of garlic and head off to Transylvania for one of the most stunning roads in the whole world. Running across some of the most amazing mountains in Romania, the Transfagarasan Highway stretches 35 kilometres, and it does not disappoint. A mixture of breathtaking views, unlit tunnels, sweeping bends and an uncompromising landscape makes this, some believe, the best road in the world. Just ask the Top Gear boys...

A2, the Antrim coast road, Northern Ireland

If you want a road that couples coastal views, with biker-friendly locals then this is the road for you. Passing beautiful fishing villages, the Antrim coast road takes in 60 miles of Northern Irish Coastline. Bends in the road reveal death-defying drops into the sea below, but your bravery is well rewarded at the end with The Giant’s Causeway and a whiskey distillery. What more could you ask for?


The Amalfi Coast Road - Naples to Salerno, Italy

This thoroughfare known as ‘The road of a Thousand Bends’ does exactly what it says on the tin. Twists and turns, highs and lows, the Amalfi Coast Road hugs the shore like a 50km-long piece of spaghetti, this is one Italian Job you must experience. Just don’t go in the summer, there’s nothing fun about getting stuck behind coaches full of tourists.


The Cat and Fiddle run - A537, Buxton - Macclesfield, England

The RAC have dubbed it ‘Britain's Most Dangerous Road’, bikers have a different view of it, they call it a Baptism of Fire for any young biker wanting to cut his teeth. It starts slow and then the corners just keep coming, and coming, and coming. One ride and you’ll realise why people keep coming back. There’s even the Cat and Fiddle pub at the end of it, but stick to the water you’ll need it for the trip back.

Furka Pass, between Gletsch and Andermatt, Switzerland

Many bikers have exclaimed “Furka me” as they begin the ascent up this road, which winds its way up near-vertical mountainside passing crash barriers as a warning to any of those who think this will be easy. There are quite a few chances to let your hair down and see what your bike can really do on some of the high-speed sections but beware, while the ice and snow make for awe-inspiring scenery, they can also produce dangerous driving conditions. Not for the faint of heart, but well worth the risk.
