Lately there has been a craze of adapting popular video games into live action feature films in recent years and most of these films have been somewhat disastrous to say the least. Many of them fail by not sticking to the source material. Others fail due to a lack of effort being put into them. Especially the films by German director Uwe Boll. But there are some video games out there that would probably make for fantastic films if handled by the right team. Here are some that would be great films, and who would direct them.

Metroid: Metroid lends itself beautifully to movies. It has always seemed to me to be a lighter-in-tone version of the movie Alien, except with an initially more empowered lead character in Samus Aran. The perfect director for a film of this nature would be Guillermo Del Toro, best known for directing the Hellboy movies and Pan's Labyrinth. He would be great for handling the heavy creature affects, and would add a nice touch of light horror to the film to hit it home.

Grand Theft Auto: While the first three games were not exactly heavy on story, and the controversy surrounding the franchise (which has started to die down lately) may hinder it slightly, the fourth game is an excellent example of what the story for a movie could be. It already plays out like a movie directed by either Martin Scorsese or Michael Mann, with elements that resemble both Goodfellas as well as Heat. With the proper casting, either one of those directors could bring the franchise successfully to the big screen.

Pokemon: I know what you are immediately thinking. You are thinking that Pokemon is a franchise that was big ten years ago and cannot possibly be brought back to prominence. Wrong. Nintendo has gone on the record as saying that if there was ever a live action Pokemon film, Robin Williams, a known hard core gamer, is their only choice for Professor Oak. Put this film in the hands of the Jim Henson company, and back that up with a big budget studio and the right casting, this has serious potential for a live action franchise and may even resurrect the game's reputation.

Any of these three games, and plenty more out there, would make great films, as long as they were put in the hands of the right creative teams.

History has shown that most video games that are mad into movies flop, but there are a few that should make the leap to the silver screen.
