The recent Ninja Gaiden games have been highly successful. They are based on the original Nintendo Entertainment System games and have proven that going back to the well for a game franchise can sometimes be a healthy direction to take. Here are some game franchises that could use the reboot treatment to freshen themselves up and possibly make them greater hits than they were the first time around..

Megaman: The original Megaman games are classics. They exhibited a level of difficulty that made you proud of yourself when you completed a level. But in the past ten years there have been so many ignorable sequels and spinoffs (with the exception of the highly underrated Megaman Legends games) that the series has almost become a joke. A reboot that wipes the slate clean for the Blue Bomber could do it some good. Either that or a third game in the Legends spin off (which many fans have demanded, even nearly ten years later).

Dragon's Lair: The original Dragon's Lair game made anyone who was able to beat it a legend in their arcade. While the game had been ported to the previous console generation, it was not as fluid or fun as the original, so a remake would probably bring in not only a fresh audience, but put a breath of fresh air into the classic.

Double Dragon: Double Dragon is another classic that seems to have been left behind. However, some 3-D co-op play could help repopularize this franchise, along with a well made combat system and story. Almost a mix of Resident Evil 5 and the combat system of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Except, you know, with better partner AI. In terms of graphics, the game could go for the pseudo cel-shaded look of the most recent Street Fighter game, just to keep up with the visual style of the original game.

All three of these games could have the potential to re-invigorate their reputation among gamers. Double Dragon would most likely be welcomed back by gamers, while Dragon's Lair would probably have to rebuild its reputation, as many of today's younger gamers are unfamiliar with the franchise. And Megaman being rebooted would most likely make many fans breathe a sigh of relief due to the franchise's so many unnecessary sequels and spin-offs. Of course there are other games out there that would also be great remade, but these were ones I felt could best benefit from it.

Simple solutions can make a world of difference in video game quality.
