Egyptian King Tut Undergoes CT Scan and DNA Test

King Tutankhamun widely referred to as the "boy king" has been a mystery since the discovery of his mummy in 1922. He's the most renowned Egyptian pharaoh although he was still young when he perished. The 3300-year-old mummy was the recent focus of DNA testing and CT scans and it was {proved that he died because of complications from a broken leg that were made worse by malaria. And it looks as though the pharaoh’s parents were likely brother and sister.
The tomb was first found in 1922 and ever since this moment many legends have captivated the earth. Within the tomb were prized jewels, relics, and a gold funeral mask. The tomb was exceptional because it absolutely was bulging with elaborate finds that are extremely rare and gave humanitarian experts a glance into Egyptian history because grave robbers had not located it first.
Tutankhamun suddenly found himself to be the pharaoh when he was only nine years old. And it's long been assumed that he died at the age of 19. Authorities were able to determine that Tut had a cleft palate and a club foot. Prior to this crucial testing, experts thought he had been murdered because of the gaping hole in his skull but tests have shown that to be mistaken. The opening was possibly from the mummification process.
The findings on King Tut will be revealed within the Journal of the American Medical Association. These conclusions verify a family grouping that is very close. The collection of data proves that Pharaoh Akhenaten, who tried to alter Egypt from worshipping several gods (polytheism) to one god (monotheism) was none other than King Tut's father. The tests also determine that his mother was Akhenaten's sister.
Scans also demonstrated that he had a leg fracture and malaria was present within the mummy. So when Tut fractured his leg consultants believe that it became a terminal condition because of the malarial disease. The post says that "Tutankhamun had multiple disorders...He might be viewed as a youthful and infirm ruler who required canes to move." And this appears credible since a great range of walking sticks were located in his tomb.
It is suggested the boy king died at such a young age as a result of of the genetic disorders he suffered from. Since his parents were so closely connected, he was prone to various genetic problems. But Tut wasn't the sole child throughout that time whose parents were brother and sister. Members of the 18th dynasty were closely related therefore these genetic issues were passed on and several mutated as a lot of generations married members of their own kin. Tut, just like his father, had a cleft palate and, reminiscent of his grandfather Amenhotep III, a club foot and Kohler's disease. In Egypt brother-sister weddings were rampant amongst the pharaohs.
Although DNA testing has been conducted on a range of mummies, the tests didn’t adhere to scientific research standards and were not revealed in peer reviewed journals. And a second freelance lab did not validate the data. However now the Supreme Council of Antiquities DNA lab has been founded at Cairo University. Previously, DNA tests were conducted but they weren’t fully recognized because the mummies would have had to leave the country in order to receive the tests, and Egyptian officials would not consent to it.
