Gucci was founded in 1906 by Guccio Gucci who was the son of a craftsman. Guccio's primary skill in design was his ability to create leather goods and thus started his career by selling leather bags to horsemen in the 1920’s. In 1938 Gucci opened his first retail shop on the Via Condotti in Rome.
