Lot of four original 1880s Victorian trade cards promoting the "New B" Howe Sewing Machine. This is a scarce, cohesive set of four individual standalone cards produced as a targeted late-year holiday marketing campaign by the Howe Machine Company.
Each card features a charming, vibrant chromolithograph illustration of a child set against a striking, premium metallic golden background. The front of each card features a specific calendar month printed in French: Juillet, Octobre, Novembre, and Decembre. The use of the French months indicates these were produced for the French-Canadian market, European export, or as part of a high-fashion international series.
The back of each card features an explicit late-year holiday shopping pitch directed at Victorian consumers. The text at the top reads:"In Looking for Holiday Presents for the Ladies we solicit an examination of the light running new B. Howe sewing machine."
This text captures 19th-century seasonal marketing, making these cards highly desirable crossover collectibles for both sewing ephemera enthusiasts and Victorian holiday/Christmas memorabilia collectors.
Average wear and handling; good or better vintage condition. I believe they were extracted from a Victorian scrap album.
