This 56-gram specimen is a natural opal with chalcedony silica specimen collected from a private hydrothermal vein deposit in West Texas.
This piece displays multiple generations of silica, including translucent chalcedony and more opaque common opal. Under 365nm longwave UV, it exhibits an outstanding display of green, blue, yellow, orange, and subtle violet-pink fluorescence. Under 254nm shortwave UV, the specimen develops an intense emerald-green fluorescence, while portions of the surrounding matrix continue with a subtle green phosphorescent afterglow after the UV light is removed.
