Antique Cast Bronze Lidded Vessel Spiked Crown Rim Tripod Legs Handle Old Patina For Sale

This is a heavy cast bronze lidded vessel with an unusual, sculptural form. A ring of tall, tapering spikes rises from the rim like a crown, and several of them curve outward to give it a striking silhouette. A flat lid with a squared loop handle sits inside the ring of spikes. The cylindrical body rests on a stepped base supported by three splayed legs with flared, pad-like feet.

The surface has a deep brown patina with warmer bronze tones where it has been handled. The spikes vary in shape, thickness and curve, which suggests they were hand finished. This is a substantial object with real presence, and it works well as a display piece. I have not taken the lid off as it is currently attached.
