Antique Weston Voltmeter – Weston Electrical Instrument Company – Newark, New Jersey – Circa 1900

Beautiful large antique Weston voltmeter dating to approximately the turn of the 20th century. Manufactured by the Weston Electrical Instrument Company of Newark, New Jersey, one of America’s pioneering manufacturers of precision electrical measuring instruments.

This impressive early electrical gauge features an ornate circular face with raised brass-colored lettering, decorative Victorian-style scrollwork, a textured black background, and a curved voltage scale measuring from 0 to 250 volts.

The face is prominently marked “Weston Voltmeter” and “Made By Weston Electrical Instrument Company, Newark, N.J. U.S.A.”

It also retains its original brass patent plate listing numerous patents dating from 1888 through 1898, along with its numbered identification plate marked 31614.

The instrument has a substantial cylindrical metal housing with original rear electrical connections and an aged manufacturer’s paper label.

Details:

* Manufacturer: Weston Electrical Instrument Company

* Location: Newark, New Jersey, USA

* Type: Antique electrical voltmeter

* Voltage scale: 0–250 volts

* Approximate era: Circa 1900–1910

* Serial number: 31614

* Patent dates: 1888–1898

* Diameter: Approximately 8.5 inches

* Ornate decorative metal face with brass-colored accents

* Original cylindrical housing and rear as-found condition with wear consistent with age and previous use, including scratches, oxidation, discoloration, surface marks, and attractive aged patina throughout.

The glass covering the voltage scale is cracked near the 150-volt marking, with an opening in that area.

The pointer can be moved by turning the adjustment knob on the front of the instrument. The pointer responds to manual adjustment, although the instrument has not been electrically tested. Its working condition and accuracy are unknown.

The rear housing shows age-related wear, and the original paper label remains attached but is worn.

Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition and details.

A wonderful example of early American electrical engineering and industrial craftsmanship. Its elaborate decorative face makes it especially appealing for display in an antique electrical collection, industrial-themed setting, workshop, or collection of early scientific instruments.

Sold as found, untested, for collectible display or restoration purposes.
