In daylight, this hefty Franklin specimen presents a pale grayish-white matrix mottled with darker gray-purple patches of hardystonite and scattered dark franklinite grains. The exterior is quiet and unremarkable β nothing prepares the viewer for what happens when the UV lamp comes on.
Under shortwave, the specimen ignites into the full Franklin color palette: bright red-orange calcite floods across the surface, laced and overlaid with vivid electric green willemite in bold branching patterns, while a striking patch of midnight blue-purple hardystonite anchors the composition. Dark franklinite grains stay non-fluorescent throughout, providing textural contrast against the glowing field. Under longwave, the calcite shifts to a softer pink-red and the willemite glows a mellower green, with the hardystonite response much more subdued β a beautiful dual-wavelength piece showcasing the full classic Franklin assemblage in one substantial hand specimen.
