Released in 2022, the Genesis Mini 2 is SEGA’s follow-up to the original Genesis Mini and recreates the smaller Genesis Model 2 design familiar to North American players. It comes with a six-button controller based on the larger Western Genesis controller and features 60 built-in games, including Genesis classics, Sega CD titles, and several bonus games and new ports.
The library includes favorites such as Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Shining Force II, Shining Force CD, Streets of Rage 3, The Revenge of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer, Golden Axe II, Phantasy Star II, Sonic 3D Blast, Virtua Racing, OutRun, OutRunners, Splatterhouse 2, Earthworm Jim 2, ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron, Super Street Fighter II, Vectorman 2, Crusader of Centy, Lightening Force, Ranger-X, Alien Soldier, Final Fight CD, Night Trap, Silpheed, Robo Aleste, Sewer Shark and many more.
Unlike the Japanese Mega Drive Mini 2, this is the North American Genesis release, with North American exterior styling and a partially different game selection. Several games included on this version were not included on the Japanese Mega Drive Mini 2, including Earthworm Jim 2, ClayFighter, Golden Axe II, The Revenge of Shinobi, Shining Force II, Shadow Dancer, Super Hang-On, Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf, Sonic 3D Blast, ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron, Vectorman 2, Herzog Zwei, Hellfire, Warsong and others.
The system also includes a substantial Sega CD selection, something that distinguishes the Genesis Mini 2 from the original Genesis Mini, plus bonus titles including previously unreleased games and newly created ports.
