He took part in some of the most significant archaeological excavations of the 1960s, including those at Ramat Rachel, Ashdod, Arad, Masada, and the Judean Desert caves. In 1966, he led the excavation of the Crusader fortress Belvoir in the Jordan Valley, where he also directed extensive restoration work. From 1967 onward, his primary focus shifted to Jerusalem, where he played a central role in excavating and researching the city’s rich and complex history.
