Lovely XL Black Bead Vintage Galalith “French Bakelite” Necklace For Sale

In absolutely wonderful condition with no apparent marks, this necklace measures approximately 30” and consists of smooth graduated round black beads separated by tiny black spacer beads. The necklace closes with a simple spring closure.

Galalith is, per Wiki, a type of synthetic plastic made from casein (a milk protein) and formaldehyde. It was originally developed in the late 19th century as a dustless chalkboard material, and quickly became known as a versatile and affordable alternative to materials like ivory or bakelite. The name "galalith" comes from the Ancient Greek words "gala" (milk) and "lithos" (stone).

So, this is a lovely old necklace with nary a scratch made the old-timey way.
