When people think of Japanese fountain pens, the big three
iconic brands often come to mind: Pilot, Platinum, and Sailor. For hand-crafted
premium pens, Nakaya—an offshoot of Platinum. Ohashido operated at a smaller
scale sale. As a multi-generational family penmaker, its artisans crafted
hand-turned ebonite pens on a manual, foot-powered lathe. Each pen is unique
and equipped with a gold nib (typically 14k) that was custom made for Ohashido
by Sailor. Ohashido fountain pens are beautiful writing instruments. Most
feature an urushi lacquer and an ebonite section, whereas I have found that
most ebonite pens on the market use resin sections. These pens that will
enhance any collection.
This is a black hand-turned ebonite fountain pen by Ohashido. The pen features a small 18k gold barrel band and black body. The 14k fine (F) nib was custom made for Ohashido by Sailor. This nib size is comparable to a Sailor 1911S, although the pen's body is larger than a 1911S. The pen has a small blemish: a micro-chip in the urushi on the body. It's one of those things you would need to look for in order to see and it does not affect writing function. The original box and a felt pen sleeve are included.I will include a new Sailor converter.
