For sale is an original vintage oil painting on canvas featuring an Alpine mountain landscape. The piece is hand-signed and dated in the lower-left corner by the artist, A. H. Lehmann, '42 (1942). It depicts a scenic mountain valley surrounded by green pine trees, a wooden trail marker, and snow-capped peaks in the background.

This vintage canvas is being sold as-found and will require cleaning or repair. Please note the following specific condition issues:
• There is a small slit/puncture through the canvas.
• The oil paint layers show noticeable chipping and paint loss.
• There is some light mud/residue on the back of the canvas.
The measurements show the canvas size is approximately 27.5 inches by 19.5 inches (roughly 70 cm x 50 cm), which is a classic European stretcher frame size. This piece would make a great restoration project or a beautiful rustic addition to a vintage-style home or cabin once cleaned.
Yes, I know from the I understanding the artist is below found this when we were in Germany. Wanted to restore it myself. I had no time.
mid-20th-century Europe, regional painters frequently contracted with or sold their work directly to local hotels, alpine resorts, and traditional German Gasthäuser (guest houses). Owners bought these idyllic landscape scenes to decorate guest rooms, dining halls, and lobbies to lean into a cozy, rustic aesthetic for tourists.Because it was painted in 1942, it also carries a unique historical context:
• Wartime Solace: During the height of WWII, urban areas in Germany faced severe disruptions. Innkeepers and artists alike sought refuge in remote alpine guest houses, and local landscape art remained a steady trade to bring a sense of peace and normalcy into those spaces.• The Travel Connection: Tourists or military personnel staying at these alpine guest houses often bought these transportable canvas paintings directly off the walls as high-quality souvenirs to bring home, which is likely how it eventually made its way overseas. We bought this from a junk dealer from a guest house that was going out of business
