Up for sale is a fascinating, historically significant piece of Vermont political history. This original archive details the 1990 gubernatorial campaign, the subsequent 1991 inauguration, and the sudden tragic passing of Vermont’s 78th Governor, Richard A. Snelling.
The items in this collection primarily belonged to Frederic "Deri" Meier, who served as a volunteer for the "Snelling '90" campaign and was subsequently appointed by Governor Snelling as the Deputy Secretary of Administration and Commissioner of the Department of General Services.

Official Gubernatorial Appointment Document: A beautiful, large official document from "The Freemen of the State of Vermont" appointing Frederic J. Meier as Deputy Secretary of Administration, dated October 28, 1991. It features a stunning, intact raised gold foil Great Seal of the State of Vermont and is signed by the Governor and Secretary of Civil and Military Affairs Kathleen C. Hoyt.
Original Signed Letters from Gov. Snelling:
April 23, 1990: Personal letter on Snelling's Shelburne, VT stationery thanking Meier for volunteering for the '90 campaign (Signed "Dick Snelling").
October 10, 1990: Campaign letter with an attached, unclipped "Dick, You Can Count On Me To Help You Win In November!" donor/volunteer form.
October 30, 1990: Letter on "Snelling '90" campaign stationery acknowledging Meier's resume for a potential future administration role (Signed "Dick").
January 10, 1991: Official State of Vermont confirmation letter confirming appointment as Commissioner of General Services with an annual salary of $55,000 (Signed "Richard A. Snelling").
