Up for sale is a vintage 1950s Royal Quiet De Luxe portable manual typewriter. This classic American-made writing machine is a wonderful piece of mid-century history and a fantastic candidate for a collector, typist, or restoration project.
Condition & Functionality:
• Mechanics: This machine works great! The keys strike well, and the mechanical components move smoothly. It is mechanically sound and ready to type.
• Ribbon: It is being sold without an ink ribbon. It will require a standard 2-inch universal spool typewriter ribbon (easily sourced online) to begin typing.
• Cosmetics (Repainted): Please note that this typewriter has been DIY repainted in a vibrant turquoise blue over a textured grey base. The paint job was not done professionally—there is visible chipping, pooling, and unevenness, particularly around the chrome Royal badge and shell edges where the underlying finish shows through. Please review all photos carefully to assess the cosmetic condition.
Case Details:
• Includes a cardboard carrying/storage case that fits the typewriter securely for storage and dust protection.
• Please note that this is not the original factory fiberglass/tweed case.
This is a wonderful, fully functional typewriter with a lot of character, perfect as a daily typer or a fun repainting project!
