Black on black: a black piano-lacquered saya, black cotton ito and a traditional tsuba give this Wave katana a classic, no-nonsense look. The blade is hand-forged 1045 high carbon steel, heat tempered, with a hi on each side. It arrives sharp, with a full tang and two wooden mekugi pegs, and comes fully apart for care — a katana made to be handled, not only displayed.

• Hand-forged 1045 high carbon steel, heat tempered. 52–54 HRC at the edge holds a keen, hand-sharpened edge; a softer 48–50 HRC spine absorbs shock. A hi (fuller) on each side keeps the blade lively in the hand.
• Full tang, fully disassemblable. The tang runs the full length of the handle and is secured with two wooden mekugi pegs, so the katana can be taken apart for cleaning and reassembled.

  Care and Use

  Suited to light cutting practice such as rolled tatami omote, soft mats and water-filled bottles, where permitted by local law. Not intended for hard targets such as metal, stone or seasoned hardwood. The blade can rust if left wet: wipe it dry after handling and apply a light coat of sword oil before storing.
