    Next year will mark the Bicentennial of the birth of Abraham Lincoln and the Centennial of the Lincoln Cent coin. In honor of the occasion, four different reverse designs will be issued throughout 2009.

    This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Louis Braille. He is well known for his invention of the Braille System.     The Franklin Half Dollar coin was issued from 1948 to 1963 to celebrate one of the most well known figures from the American Revolutionary period. Although the coin series issued in his honor was short lived, it provides coin collectors with many unique aspects and challenges.

    In 2007, the United States Mint debuted a new series of circulating commemorative dollar coins honoring the former presidents. The golden colored dollar coins would feature rotating obverse designs with four new releases each year. The series was intended to begin a revitalization of United States coinage design which would return it to its position of aesthetic beauty. Instead, the public focused on the apparent omission of the motto "In God We Trust."

    The new program specifically provides for the issuance of five different quarters each year featuring a design emblematic of a National Park or National Site in each US State, US Territory, and Washington DC. The designs would be released in the order each park or site was designated. The duration of the series would be 11 years, and comprise at least 56 different quarters.     The most highly anticipated coin in recent memory was recently released to the public. This coin is a recreation of the Ultra High Relief Double Eagle originally designed by Augustus Saint Gaudens. It was originally created for the 1907 Double Eagle, however the technology of that time did not allow the coin to be mass produced. Modern techniques have allowed the US Min to finally produce the coin as intended.
