Batman's greatest villains

With the long running history of Batman comes a very large number of enemies that have become a part of Gotham City's worries and woes. Making a complete catalog of them along with their details and secret agendas would be more fitting as a paperback or novel so, how about taking a quick look at some of the most recognized and perilous characters in The Dark Knights Universe.

The Joker is clearly our first villain to talk about. He is by far to be considered the arch nemesis to Batman. The Joker, name aside, is not to be taken frivolously. He is a admirable adversary of Batman and is extremely unpredictable and treacherous. He was played by Jack Nicholson in the 1989 Batman, Jacks presentation was said to be Oscar worthy. Later in the most recent Batman film Heath Ledger put on another outstanding portrayal of the Joker, many people believing that Ledgers performance in The Dark Knight was even Better than Nicholsons.

Next up is The Penguin, named this because of his appearance and its similarity to that frozen bird that can not fly. With his long, beak-like nose and thick corpse he is a rather vile person. He is, on the other hand, a very sharp man. He pictures himself as a 'higher being' on the other hand he is also an outcast. Burgess Meredith played him in the sixties series but of the actors that have played the role Danny DeVito got it down to a tee in 1992's Batman Returns. While we are on the issue of that picture there is also Catwoman to point out. Who could forget Michelle Pfeiffer's spin on the P.V.C. clad villainess? Celina had already been well previously by the late Eartha Kitt. The holder of the title to the best catwoman is still debatable

The Riddler is yet another great baddie. Frank Gorshin is probably noted as the recognized Riddler from the Batman Series in 67 and 68. The 1995 Batman motion picture, Batman Forever starred big name actor Jim Carrey. The Riddler, as his handle suggests, is obsessed with riddles. He commonly sends complex clues to both The Dark Knight and the police force before committing a crime. The Riddler is often dressed in a green outfit with a domino mask. Many times the Riddler hangs with a couple of female accomplices, Echo and Query.

Mr Freeze is the last of the enemies we will mention. He first appeared in Detective Comics as Mister Zero and wasn't a particularly dangerous character. However, after appearing in the Batman series of the sixties on several different occasions he became Mr. Freeze, a far more serious threat to our hero. He is a mad scientist who just so happens to have a great understanding of cryonics. To survive anywhere except for a unique refrigeration unit, Mr. Freeze is forced to dress in a special costume to keep him amply cold. With this suit he has outlandish improved power and is able to harness the cold to use as a weapon. Arnold Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze in 1997's Batman and Robin.

In short, you can easily see why Batman has such a tough job. Remember these are just some of the villains he deals with.
