Photograph Tricks To Use In Scrapbooks

There are many tricks you can use to make your photos more interesting. The most common method is to cut and crop pictures so that they are different sizes. But there are several other things that you can to add interest, including placement of pictures and using low-tech and high-tech solutions to manipulate the picture itself.

One trick is to make a collage in order to fit several photos on one page. As well, you can use newspaper clippings or blocks of text in the collage to emphasize a theme or commemorate an occasion. Each picture or clipping can be a different size. The trick with collages is to layout the pictures first, to see how you would like them to overlap, before permanently attaching them in place.

Another trick is to give a mosaic look to your photograph. First, on the back of the photo, draw both vertical and horizontal lines to create a grid of very small squares. Then cut out one square at a time. As you cut each square, glue it onto a white piece of paper, making sure to leave an equal amount of space between each square. It is important to cut and glue one square at a time so that no squares get out of order. The end result is a beautiful mosaic.

A third trick that you can use is to weave photographs together like a straw mat. This look will create texture and dimension on your scrapbooking page. To start, select a picture and print out two copies of it. Turn both pictures over so that you can draw lines on the back of the photos. On one picture, draw vertical lines and on the other picture, draw horizontal lines. Make sure that both the vertical and horizontal lines are the same width - half an inch is a good width. You will probably find that anything smaller is too hard to work with and anything larger will not have enough strips. Next, cut along the lines on both pictures. Finally, weave together the cut out strips and place the finished picture on decorative scrapbook paper to give it a framed look.

A fourth trick involves downloading and printing clipart from the internet. Since there is such a wide variety of clipart on the internet, you will be able to find exactly the right picture or expression to fit your scrapbook page. As well, you can glue the clipart to foam in order to give it a three dimensional look and feel.

A final trick is to use a software program like Adobe Photoshop or IrfanView (free) to manipulate a picture. Using the software, you can create different effects. Play with them until you find one effect that you like. Build a scrapbook page around the newly manipulated picture. Another idea is to take the same picture and save it every time you use a different effect. Then take those pictures and make them into a collage. You will end up with the same picture on one page, but each picture will be slightly different so the page will look very interesting.
