Scrapbook Layout Ideas Involving Children

If you are passionate about scrapbooking and have children, why not share that passion with them? Get them involved and have them create their own scrapbooks. Take pictures throughout the year and then at least once a year, create a scrapbook. You select the pictures and prepare all the supplies you will need. The kids can then put it all together on those cold rainy days. Plus, it's a perfect way to spend some quality time together.

Hand Prints: Whether the scrapbooking page is focused on one child or a group of children, add some hand prints. Prepare some washable paints for the children and have them place their hands in the paint and then on the paper. It is very important that the paint will wash off easily, as it will likely end up everywhere, especially if young children are involved. Plus, the children will have to wash the paint off their hands when they are done.

Create your own borders: If you recently went on a trip to the beach, have the kids collect seashells and sand while you are there. When you get back, print out your favourite pictures. Place them in a scrapbook and let the kids glue the seashells and sand on the page to create borders on the edges of the page.

Background paper: You can have your children create their own background using tissue paper. Have them draw a picture on tissue paper using watercolour paint. Once they are done, create a mixture of one part Scrappy Glue and one part water. Dip the tissue paper into this mixture and allow it to dry. This will make the tissue paper harder and their picture will be well preserved.

Add details using glue: Need to add some swirls and lines to the page? Let the kids make the swirls or lines using glue. Then, before the glue can dry, add sand, glitter, beads or anything else that is small. This will create eye-catching details that everyone will love. Hint: Do this first before adding anything else to the page, as you will want to shake off any excess sand and glitter on the page. If you wish, you can draw outlines of where pictures and other larger items will be placed, so that the beads or glitter won't be hidden.

Let them decide: Not sure what memories you want to capture? Then let the kids decide. Let them pick out the pictures, drawings, stickers and whatever else they want to include in the scrapbook. Don't worry about if it all flows together or having everything in "the" perfect spot. Let loose and have fun because creating the album is also part of the memories.
