Top 3 FC Barcelona Managers

By: Jamie Hanson

Here is the list of three of the most successful managers of FC Barcelona in the modern era.

1) Johan Cruijff - Very less amount of people succeeded to achieve Managerial success at Club where they become legendary players. Cruijff had a great playing career with FC Barcelona and also had a equally successful coaching career too. Johan Cruijff took charge of FC Barcelona in 1988 and continued at the helm of FC Barcelona till 1996. He had a great managerial record with Fc Barcelona. He won 4 La Liga titles, one Copa Del Rey titles and 3 Super cup in Spain. He also managed to take Fc barcelona to Champions League Glory in 1992 but failed to repeat the success in 1994 losing to Milan. With 11 trophies, Cruyff has been FC Barcelona's most successful manager to date as he had more trophies to show for his tenure, as well as being the club's longest serving manager.

At FC Barcelona Cruyff brought in players such as Josep Guardiola, José Mari Bakero, Txiki Beguiristáin, Goikoetxea, Ronald Koeman, Michael Laudrup, Romário, Gheorghe Hagi and Hristo Stoichkov. Known as a player's coach with deep convictions with regard to his philosophy of the game, he is considered a visionary and his presence at FC Barcelona was said to have changed many things and his was the beginning of what is known as the 'Dutch influence' at Barcelona.

2) Pep Guardiola - Josep Guardiola like Cruijff was a legendary Fc barcelona player. He came into prominence during Cruijff managerial period. He took charge of FC Barcelona after having a fairly successful stint with FC Barcelona Atletic. He hasn't won anything but is destined to be big. FC Barcelona is aiming for treble under him this season. Maybe many would consider his inclusion in this list as purely premature. But the way he has revamped the fortunes of Barca once again deserves credit. He may end up trophy less this season but he is here to stay and I can see him winning more trophies than anyone.

3) Frank Rijkaard - Frank Rijkaard became FC barcelona coach in 2003. He was responsible for the revival of Barca and turning them back to the world beaters. Prior to Rijkaard FC barcelona were going through a torrid time. He brought in Ronaldinho and Davids and turned the fortune of the side. The team finished second in his first season, having been close to the relegation zone at one point in the earlier stages of the season.

Rijkaard had a disappointing start at Barcelona that saw some sections of the club's fans call for his resignation, and he drew flak from the media when the team lost to Real Madrid in December 2003. He brought in more players and trusted the young guns coming out of La Masia. Iniesta and Messi rose to prominence during his time. He won two La Liga titles and One Uefa Champions League title with FC Barcelona. His last two seasons were a sort of disaster and he was replaced by Guardiola.
